If it were in the active voice, it would have only one word: “grew.” Another example is: “were developed.” The active voice for this verb would simply be “developed.” By changing your wording you will increase the readability of your resume and better appeal to the reader. It helps determine which military occupation would be the best fit. The tests are rigorous but designed to measure skills and aptitudes based on what the Air Force needs in its recruits. The 2015 revision of the AFOQT makes several changes. It has a new reading comprehension test that was based on officer professional military education materials. It tests for instrument comprehension with modernized instrument displays. It has a situational judgment test that uses realistic scenarios. What the AFOQT Measures The updated AFOQT assesses candidates on verbal analogies, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, math knowledge, reading comprehension, physical science, table reading, instrument comprehension, block counting, aviation information, and situational judgment.   Changes Made in the Form T AFOQT The test questions were updated throughout the test when it was revised in 2015. Specific sections were also changed. The reading comprehension subtest was added, and its score contributes to the composite scores for Verbal and Academic Aptitude. It is based on being able to understand the content of officer Professional Military Education (PME). Another subtest, situational judgment, also was added. It scores how you use judgment in interpersonal situations that an officer is likely to encounter. The instrument comprehension test was added to include graphics and modern instrumentation of Air Force aircraft. And the physical science subtest replaced the general science test.   Subtests andComposite Scores on the AFOQT The subtests include: Verbal Analogies, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Math Knowledge, Reading Comprehension, Situational Judgment Test, Self-Description Inventory, Physical Science, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension, Block Counting, Aviation Information Scores from the subtests generate verbal, quantitative, academic, pilot, combat systems operator, and air battle manager composite scores. Pilot Composite Score:  Used as part of the overall Pilot Candidate Selection Method (PSCM) score. Subtests included: Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension, Aviation Information. Combat Systems Officer (CSO): This was formerly the Navigator-Technical composite. Subtests included: Word Knowledge, Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Block Counting. Air Battle Manager (ABM): In addition to elements of the pilot composite, it includes the subtests for verbal aptitude and spatial ability. Subtests included: Verbal Analogies, Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension, Block Counting, Aviation Information. Academic Aptitude: Includes the verbal and quantitative composites. Verbal Composite: Verbal Analogies, Word Knowledge, Reading Comprehension. Quantitative Composite: Arithmetic Reasoning, Math Knowledge. The total time required to take the test is almost five hours, with two breaks allowed. All questions are multiple-choice with four or five possible answers. You are scored on the number of correct answers and not penalized for incorrect answers. Passing Score on the AFOQT The test does not have a pass or fail scores. The better you score, the better your chances are of being considered for officer candidacy. Each commission source determines what scores are needed to be selected or considered for their programs. To pass, applicants taking the  AFOQT  must  score  a  minimum  of 15 in Verbal and 10 in Quantitative. For aspiring pilot applicants, you must  score  a minimum  of 25 in pilot, 10 in navigator, and possess a combined pilot-navigator score  of 50.

The standards for selection for enlistment in the Navy’s NF program are high. People applying for NF training must be dedicated to pursuing the challenge this highly technical field offers. Applicants should be mature, responsible, and capable of working well under pressure. Note: NF is not an actual rating, but rather a specialized enlistment program. Qualifications NF candidates must be U.S. citizens. Candidates must also not have reached their 25th birthday by the time they enter active duty (ship out to basic training). However, age-waivers will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must be a high school diploma graduate (not GED) with successful completion of one year of algebra, and able to meet Secret security clearance requirements. Obligation Active duty obligation is six years. Applicants must enlist for four years and concurrently execute an agreement to extend their enlistment for 24 months to accommodate the additional training involved. Advancement Personnel selected for nuclear training enter the Navy in pay grade E-3. Accelerated advancement to pay grade E-4 is authorized after personnel completes all advancement-in-rate requirements (to include minimum time in rate) and “A” School, provided eligibility in the NF Program is maintained. Enlistment and reenlistment bonuses in addition to Navy salary, special duty assignment pay, and allowances for food and housing are available. Those who volunteer and are selected to serve on nuclear submarines (men only) are eligible for added submarine duty incentive pay from the day they graduate from nuclear training. Career Opportunities Three Navy job specialties, called “ratings,” are included in the NF community: Machinist’s Mate (MM), Electrician’s Mate (EM), and Electronics Technician (ET). The rating in which an NF candidate is trained is determined at the Recruit Training Center (boot camp). Nuclear-trained MMs, EMs, and ETs perform duties in nuclear propulsion plants operating reactor control, propulsion, and power generation systems. The character of NF jobs is mentally stimulating and offers career growth. The NF provides opportunities to work closely with specialists in the nuclear, technology, and engineering fields. The educational opportunities available to the nuclear-trained Sailor range from college-level classes in physics, chemistry, mathematics, electrical engineering, and thermodynamics to nuclear engineering training in nuclear power plant design, construction, instrumentation, and operations. The American Council on Education (ACE) has verified the extensive nature and unsurpassed quality of the Navy’s nuclear propulsion training program by recommending up to 77 semester hours of college credit. Career Path After recruit training, NF candidates report to the NF “A” School in Charleston, SC, for technical training in their specific ratings. They then attend Nuclear Power School (NPS) in Charleston, SC, where they learn theory and practical application of nuclear physics and reactor engineering. Following NPS, candidates begin prototype training in their rating specialty at one of two Nuclear Power Training Units (NPTUs). After nuclear power training, NF Sailors are designated nuclear propulsion plant operators. They may be assigned to modern nuclear-powered aircraft carriers or volunteer for submarine service (men only). Electricians Mate Nuclear Field A School: This course provides basic knowledge of technical mathematics and a basic understanding of power distribution. Students solve basic equations using phasors, vector notations, and  basic trigonometry and analyze DC and AC circuits. Students demonstrate working knowledge of DC and AC motors and generators. Students learn to operate electrical equipment using controllers, and to properly test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical circuits, motors, cables, circuit breakers, and other related electrical equipment for power distribution. Electronics Technician Nuclear Field A School: This course provides basic knowledge of technical mathematics and a good working knowledge of electricity and electronics, solid state devices, digital logic and systems, microprocessors, and instrumentation and control circuits. Students learn to interpret schematic diagrams and use appropriate test equipment to isolate and correct faults in electronic systems. Nuclear Power School: This course provides a comprehensive understanding of a pressurized-water Naval nuclear power plant, including reactor core nuclear principles, heat transfer and fluid systems, plant chemistry and materials, mechanical and electrical systems, and radiological control. Prototype Training: This course provides knowledge of the fundamentals of a Naval nuclear power plant and the interrelationship of its mechanical, electrical, and reactor subsystems. Students develop oral communications skills. Students understand the physical nature of nuclear radiation, its detection, interaction with matter, and human health consequences, and gain knowledge of the safe operation of a complex Naval nuclear power plant and its sophisticated subsystems with an emphasis on basic industrial safety principles. Students learn to identify, troubleshoot, and correct problems in nuclear mechanical, electrical, or reactor control systems at the component level with an emphasis on reactor systems, and apply earlier technical classroom knowledge gained to the practical, safe operation of Naval nuclear power plants. Officers are given the broadest understanding of the plant  subsystems and are taught command skills to effectively lead the watch team in the safe operation of a Naval nuclear power plant. Nuclear Field Statement of Understanding Active Duty Service Obligation: Six years, accomplished by a four-year enlistment, plus a two-year extension of enlistment for training in the Nuclear Field. Rating Assignment: During recruit training, personnel not already guaranteed Machinists Mate training will be selected for training in one of the following ratings: Machinists Mate, Electricians Mate, or Electronics Technician. This decision will be based on the needs of the service, test score profile, and, so far as possible, upon the personal desire of the individual. Challenging Program: The training program consists of three stages: 1) four to six months of intensive classroom instruction at Nuclear Field Class A school; 2) six months of intensive classroom instruction in mathematics, physics, and basic engineering sciences at Nuclear Power School; and 3) six months of rigorous operational training and qualification on a nuclear reactor prototype plant. Nuclear Field personnel must demonstrate good academic performance in all phases of training. Markedly inferior performance, including very low passing final grades or an obvious lack of effort in any training phase, may result in  disenrollment  from the Nuclear Field program. Duty Assignment: The Nuclear Field program trains personnel for nuclear submarines (men only) and nuclear surface ship assignments. No promise can be made regarding the type of duty assigned. Automatic Advancement: Personnel in the Nuclear Field program will be enlisted in  pay grade  E-3. Advancement to  pay grade  E-4 is authorized only after personnel complete all advancement-in-rate requirements (to include minimum time in rate) and Class A School, provided eligibility in the Nuclear Field program is maintained. If Nuclear Field Class A School training is not completed, the member will be administratively reduced to E-2 or E-1, depending on the members time in rate at the date of  disenrollment. Upon acceptance of automatic advancement to  pay grade  E-4, the member will be obligated for 12 months of the two-year extension, in addition to the four-year enlistment, regardless of whether or not advanced training is completed.? Termination of training: Having once volunteered, a Nuclear Field recruit will not be dropped for reason of non-volunteering. Determination of additional obligated service required following  disenrollment  from the Nuclear Field program will be in accordance with MILPERSMAN 1160-080. Character: Personnel in the Nuclear Field program must continually demonstrate by their professional performance, academic achievement and military behavior that they possess the ability, maturity, personal reliability, and integrity to complete the demanding training program and serve successfully as nuclear propulsion plant operators in the fleet. Consequently, any event which cast serious doubt on the members ability to continually satisfy these high standards of conduct may result in that members  disenrollment  from the Nuclear Field program. Drug Abuse: Entry into or continuation in the Nuclear Field program will be denied to any individual who has been convicted of, or who is identified as having, illegally, wrongfully, or otherwise improperly used marijuana, narcotics, inhaled substances, or other controlled substances, or illegally or wrongfully possessed or engaged in the sale of the same. This restriction applies prior to and after entry into active service, with the exception of waivers granted for experimental use of marijuana prior to entry into active duty. Special Pay: Personnel in the Nuclear Field who have completed Nuclear Power Training and been awarded a nuclear NEC receive Special Duty Assignment Pay (SDAP) in accordance with applicable NAVADMIN. College Credit: College Credit is not granted by the Navy for courses studied at Nuclear Power School. Department of Energy License to Operate a Reactor: A license from the Department of Energy to operate a reactor plant is not granted by virtue of this training. But we’re going to assume you know better than to lie on your resume , bash your previous employer , or perhaps worst of all, show up totally unprepared . So let’s talk about one thing you might not realize is hurting your chances of landing a new job: being inconsistent.   Being inconsistent in an interview: think, “not having a consistent story about your background, experience, the reason you’re interested in this company and position, and your motivation for leaving your current one,” lists Glassdoor human resources expert Jamie Hitchens- can crush you during the interview process. That’s because “the recruiter, hiring manager and interviewers all share notes from their time with you,” Hitchens explains, and, “so, you should be telling them all the same thing.”   In other words, you don’t want to tell one manager you’re leaving your current job because you’d like more flexible work hours, only to turn around and tell the VP of the company you’re saying sayonara because you’d like to move up the corporate ladder. Neither answer is wrong, in and of itself, but when those two higher-ups talk, your different answers could inspire confusion, and call into question your honesty. Saying different things to different people isn’t the only way you can be inconsistent in an interview. As Sharlyn Lauby, founder of   HR Bartender , and author of   Essential Meeting Blueprints for Managers , points out, you can be inconsistent on a resume. For example, let’s say you’ve held many titles over your career . Your most recent move wasn’t lateral- like going from a customer service representative role at one company to another- but instead, is something that doesn’t make a lot of sense on paper- like moving from a marketing director to a social media manager. That kind of inconsistency on your resume, Lauby says, “might need some explanation.” Same goes for listing skills that don’t mesh, or listing some accomplishments but not all . All of these inconsistencies can be a red flag to a potential employer. When you’re inconsistent, in any way, “it shows a lack of preparation and in turn a lack of interest or commitment to this role,” warns Hitchens. “It shows a lack of attention to detail, and [a] potential lack of integrity.” After all, she says, “if you’re telling the hiring manager one thing because you think it’s what they want to hear and then telling other interviewers something else, the truth likely lies somewhere in the middle.” Instead, you need to show a hiring manager three key things with what you write in your resume and what you say- to everyone involved in the hiring process- during your interview: trust, communication skills, and decision-making skills, Lauby says. “Inconsistency can erode trust,” Lauby warns. “If a manager gets a different answer every time they speak to [you], they don’t know which response is the right one, and that can impact working relationships.” So, always try to give an honest answer. When it comes to communication skills, “consistency doesn’t mean that a person’s response will follow a set of norms,” Lauby explains. “It means that the candidate’s responses are explainable and don’t contradict other answers.” In an interview, try to make sure what you say on paper and out loud follows the same story, always.     Lastly, inconsistency won’t let you show off your decision-making skills - a trait employers value in employees. “Companies want to know employees are going to make the consistent decisions when it comes to customer service,” Lauby says. “Being inconsistent can send the message that those skills are not well defined.”

The first of the two events, E-Fest West, will take place from March 23 to 25 at the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. E-Fest East, from April 13 to 15, will be held at Penn State in State College, Pa. ASME E-Fests are three-day, two-night events where engineering students can experience the fun and excitement of engineering by participating in thought-provoking panel discussions and workshops, networking and social activities, and competitive events including the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge, the Student Design Competition and the Old Guard Competition. E-Fests East and West are two of three festivals being offered by ASME this spring, along with E-Fest Asia Pacific, which will be held March 16-18 at Delhi Technological University in Delhi, India. E-Fest West will include a number of other interesting activities that students wont want to miss, such as the session Engineering for Change (E4C): Engineering Social Innovation; the presentation Geometric Based Topological Optimization and Analysis by Erik Larson, U.S. training manager at Altair; an interviewing skills workshop with Tom Munnerlyn, director of the Career Center at Cal Poly Pomona; and the FutureME Mini-Talks session, Making a Successful Transition from College to Career, featuring Jordan Duhe of Noble Plastics, Ritesh Lakhkar of Fitbit Inc., and Paige Balcom, a National Science Foundation Fellow and Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Berkeley. A student from the Colorado School of Mines prepares his team’s robot for the Student Design Competition at last year’s E-Fest West in Las Vegas. The team was the overall winner at the event. The festivals busy program will also feature the workshop CAD Design That Delivers a Competitive Edge, with Doug Stainbrook of Solid Edge; an impromptu CAD battle and 3D workshop with Simon Pun of Divergent 3D; and the presentation Design for the Next Generation of Engineers by John Devitry, a research fellow at Utah State University. Registration is still open for three competitions taking place at E-Fest East at Penn State: the Student Design Competition Robot Football challenge, the Old Guard Poster Competition, and the Old Guard Oral Competition.
